International Projects

Our work is predominantly focused on Nottingham in the UK. However, we run small programmes in our satellite offices and with partner organisations in Africa and the UK. Working with Mojatu Foundation in Kenya, Mojatu Foundation in Somaliland and through our partners in The Gambia, we support the following projects in these regions

Community journalism and media

Working with local media houses in Somaliland and The Gambia, we support local journalists, especially those focusing on community awareness, news, and information, with free training and resources. This is mainly through sharing of free online and community media resources and materials aimed at enhancing the skills and competencies of community journalists. This helps support the communities to become more articulate and involved in what is happening around them and to address issues affecting them such as abject poverty, abuse by political leaders and tackling abject poverty and misinformation.

Tackling female genital mutilation (FGM)

We support girls and women affected by FGM through active campaigning and engagement with policy makers in the creation of policies, directives and projects that help reduce and eliminate FGM from these communities. We also help in developing wider understanding and awareness or the impact of FGM on girls and women in these communities and beyond. For example, we have been supporting Moi Eor-Etock primary School in Narok County, southwestern Kenya with training and empowerment programmes for students, particularly girls. This is to ensure that students receive the best possible education, knowledge, and awareness to help them take an active role in the fight against FGM, teenage pregnancy, child marriage and women empowerment.

Get involved in our work

You can contribute to our work with Moi Eor-Etock school by donating books, clothes and shoes. Even a small donation can make a big difference to the lives of the children, so please give what you can. We are also developing a volunteering programme and will share more details shortly. If you would like to give us a donation or are interested in working with us in Kenya email laura@mojatu.com for more details.
